Epson Ships Fall Inkjet Printer Line

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 10/8/2001

NEW YORK— Epson last week officially unveiled its new three-unit C Series of inkjet printers that includes the company's first printer developed specifically for sale with PC bundles.

The Stylus C40UX will first become available in PC bundles through Dell and Gateway and will not sell as a stand-alone printer at retail, said Steve Semos, Epson's inkjet printer product manager. The printer, a $79 value, has print speeds of 8 pages per minute for text and 3.5ppm for color images. Print resolution is 1,440dpi and connects to a PCs USB port.

The C60, carrying a $79 suggested retail price after $20 mail in rebate, has double the print resolution of the C40UX with 12ppm text and 8ppm color print speeds. The company's new flagship printer is the C80. It uses Epson's newly developed DuraBrite ink, which is pigment and not dye based for less fading and water resistance, said Semos. The C80 has a 20ppm text print rate and Epson claims it cam make an 8z10-inch color print in about 40 seconds. Upcoming versions of the C80 will have a wireless printing option, shipping later this month with a $299 suggested retail price, and a built-in network card shipping in October with a $349 suggested retail price.
