Dotcast To License ReplayTV Wares

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 10/8/2001

SANTA CLARA, CALIF.— Sonicblue said it has agreed to license its ReplayTV digital video recording technology to Dotcast to enable development of Dotcast broadband receiving devices with digital video capture and playback functionality.

Dotcast develops and maintains a wireless broadband network capable of distributing heavy volumes of digital content across the nation. The companies will integrate the ReplayTV software platform and hardware reference designs on a non-exclusive basis with a forthcoming DotBox receiver.

When completed, the receiver will manage the storage of video, music, and other rich media delivered to consumers over the Dotcast Digital Network. Dotcast said it has agreements with approximately 200 broadcasters to "cost-effectively distribute" multimedia content.
