Staff -- TWICE, 9/17/2001

ARLINGTON, VA.— The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) in conjunction with the Society for Automotive Engineers (SAE) is launching a new tradeshow called the Digital Car Conference and Exhibition (DCCE).

To be held Oct. 15-18, 2001 at the Cobo Center in Detroit, it will showcase mobile systems, including aftermarket systems, that are integrated into the car, such as navigation equipment, intelligent transportation systems, electronic safety systems, wireless communication, A/V entertainment and telematics.

CEA said it expects approximately 100 exhibitors from the consumer electronics, telecommunications and automotive industries and more than 5,000 attendees including design engineers, automotive engineers, consumer electronics and aftermarket companies and consumers.

The theme for the first conference is "Telematics: What Do People Really Want," which will focus on wireless communication and navigation in passenger cars.

SAE, Warrendale, Pa., represents 80,000 engineers, teachers, students, government employees and business executives.

A list of technical sessions at the conference is available on the DCCE Web site at www.sae.org/digitalcar.
