M. Rothman Celebrates 50 Years Of CE Distributing

Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 9/3/2001

RAMSEY, N.J.— M. Rothman & Co., the Northeastern CE distributor, reached a major corporate milestone this year: it's 50th birthday.

To mark the occasion, the family-run business, headed by brothers Billy, Russell and Douglas, threw a gala celebration for their customers at their 125,000-square-foot facility here earlier this summer, replete with food, golf outings, fireworks and, of course, product displays.

The distributorship, founded in 1951 by their father Martin, sells consumer electronics to such New York metro area heavyweights as P.C. Richard and The Wiz, as well as department stores and scores of smaller independents located throughout the Tri-State region and New England.

Despite sharp declines in the area's independent dealer base, and a round of company layoffs earlier this year, the $80 million business continues to thrive on a brand wagon that includes such names as AT&T, IBM, JVC, Konka, Philips, Pioneer, Sharp, TDK and Toshiba.

Between the gala and an anticipated 10 percent hike in revenues for 2001, the Brothers Rothman have seemingly started the next 50 years off on the right foot.
