JL Readies Class D Car Subwoofer Amp

Miramar, Fla. - JL Audio plans first-quarter shipments of the second Class D car-audio amplifier in its five-SKU JX series.
JL Audio’s $329-suggested JX500/1D 500-watt monoblock replaces a Class A/B version to increase efficiency and reduce size.The JX500/1D 500-watt monoblock amp at a suggested $329 replaces a Class A/B version to increase efficiency and reduce size. It joins the JX1000/1D 1,000-watt Class D monoblock amp and three Class A/B amps. Those consist of a 250-watt monoblock amp, a 2x1800-watt amp, and a 4x90-watt amp. Ratings are RMS into 2-ohm loads.
The new JX500/1D is 43 percent smaller than the model it replaces and delivers 300 watts RMS into 4 ohms, 400 watts into 3 ohms, and 500 watts into 2 ohms with a frequency response of 10Hz to 150Hz, a damping factor of >1,000 @ 4 ohms, and dimensions of 2.09 inches by 7.68 inches by 7.83 inches.
