Seoul, South Korea - LG Electronics unveiled its first LTE-capable tablet, the Optimus Pad LTE, but the company didn't disclose its intentions for U.S. availability.
LG's first LTE-equipped tablet features Android 3.2 OS and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. The device features Android 3.2 Honeycomb OS, 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 8.9-inch display with HD 1,280 by 768 resolution, in-plane switching (IPS) display technology to deliver a wide viewing angle, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chats, HDMI output, DLNA technology for networking and MicroSD slot that accepts 32GB memory cards. LG didn't disclose the amount of embedded memory in the tablet.
The tablet weighs in at 1.06 pounds and is 9.34mm thick (0.37 inches). The iPad 2, in contrast, is 0.34 thick and weighs 1.3 pounds.
The tablet comes with 6,800mAh battery.
Because tablets generate five times the traffic of the average smartphone, "it's not a huge jump to assume that tablet users need and want faster connectivity," said Jong-seok Park, president/CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company. "The combination of LG's LTE technology with the tablet form factor is a clear advantage for consumers who use a tablet as their primary consumption device when on the move."
