GWG Offers Mobile Locator App

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 10/13/2011

St. James, N.Y. - Global Warranty Group (GWG) has introduced a mobile app that allows users to find a lost or stolen wireless device.

The developer and administrator of product warranties and extended-service contract programs said its PhoneRetriever app for smartphones and tablets uses GPS and Cloud technology to track missing mobile devices, as well as backup and restore personal data and lock and unlock devices remotely.

PhoneRetriever can either be preloaded into wireless phones and tablets or downloaded and installed. The app, which supports all major wireless operating platforms including Windows Mobile, Apple, BlackBerry, Symbian OS and Android, will be available at wireless retailers within GWG's U.S. and Canadian dealer network as a value-added component of its signature Wireless Protection Program and as a freestanding retail item. The app will also be available directly to consumers for purchase and as a download.

"With the unprecedented growth of smartphone and electronic tablet use and ownership, and the ever increasing importance  they represent for essential communication and data-storage functions,  the demand for protecting hardware and content  is clearly evident," said GWG president Charles Pipia.

GWG describes itself as North America's largest dealer-based, third-party provider of insurance-backed handset replacement programs, serving more than 8,000 independent wireless retail locations.
