Santa Barbara, Calif. - Sonos opened up distribution of its some of its wireless multi-room-audio components to a general-merchandise chain for the first time with the launch of three products through Target.Target stores nationwide began selling the products last week following a launch on Target.com, a spokesperson said.
Sonos also sells through such retailers as Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com, Best Buy's Magnolia Home Theater sections, A/V specialists, custom installers, Micro Center and Brookstone, according to the Sonos website.
The Sonos products available through Target are the $299 Play:3 two-way one-piece wireless stereo speaker, the $399-suggested Play:5 three-way one-piece stereo speaker, and the $49 Bridge, which connects to a home's router to wirelessly stream music from a networked PC to the tabletop speakers. When the Bridge is connected, the speakers also stream Internet radio stations and music services through a networked broadband modem. Music is selected for playback through apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android smartphones.
Sonos products not available through Target are step-up products. They are the $349 handheld RF Sonos controller; the $349 ZonePlayer 90, a client device that connects any existing home audio system to a Sonos network; and the $499 ZonePlayer 120, which incorporates an amplifier and connects to any pair of speakers.
Sonos launched its first products in 2005.
