By John Laposky -- TWICE, 10/7/2011

Chattanooga, Tennessee - Clarity, a division of Plantronics that markets smart communication solutions for seniors and the physically impaired, has expanded its XL cordless home phone series by two models.

ClarityClarity's XLC2 DECT 6.0 phoneThe Clarity XLC2 and XLC3.4 are engineered for people with hearing loss, low vision or mobility challenges.

The two new models use proprietary Digital Clarity Power to amplify incoming sounds and remove unwanted and distracting noises, much like a hearing aid, the company said. The DECT 6.0 phones include three tone settings and boost outgoing speech up to 15 decibels.

The phones feature talking Caller ID, which announces the incoming caller, and a talking dial pad with back-lit buttons to help those with low vision. Oversized soft-touch buttons on the handset and phone base are spaced apart to be easily accessible to those with dexterity issues or arthritis.

Both models also include a spearkerphone and extra bright visual ringers. The XLC3.4 features a Caller ID screen as well. Both are hearing aid compatible.

The XLC3.4 retails for $159.95 and can be purchased in a combo pack with an extra handset for $219.95. The XLC2 retails for $143.95.

"Crystal clear conversations from a phone that is simple-to-use, that's what so many older consumers are seeking and that's what we're delivering with the Clarity XLC2 and XLC3.4," said Carsten Trads, president of Clarity. "These new cordless phones feature our patented digital sound processing, which is similar to the technology found in hearing aids. But it's not just about overcoming hearing loss; the phones address multiple health concerns to provide a complete solution for seniors."
