Microsoft Turns Off Zune
TWICE Staff -- TWICE, 10/4/2011
Redmond, Wash. - Microsoft officially pulled the plug on its Zune MP3 player today. The company said going forward it will focus all its mobile music and video efforts on Windows Phone devices, eliminating the need to manufacture new Zunes.
Microsoft will continue to support the Zune for current owners and those that buy the last units in the pipeline.
The writing was on the wall for the Zune. In March Microsoft said it would no longer release updated versions. The Zune was introduced almost five years ago and represented Microsoft's belated attempt to compete with Apple's iPod.
