Amazon Keeping New Kindles For Itself At First

By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 9/28/2011

New York - The three new Amazon Kindle e-readers and the Kindle Fire tablet will be available initially on the Amazon site but will later roll out to retail partners, an Amazon spokesperson told TWICE.

Retailers other than Amazon already offer the current generation of Kindle e-readers.

One of the first dealers to add the new devices will be Best Buy, which said it will make the $79 e-reader available in its stores in early October. It's available for pre-order now. The retailer said pre-orders for the two touchscreen-equipped e-readers and for the Kindle Fire tablet will be announced in coming weeks.

All four products will be available at all Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores for the holidays, the retailer said.
Staples will have the $79 Kindle on sale starting Oct. 8 with the remainder of the Kindle line following in November in time for the holiday selling season.
