Cobra Products Link With New Android Apps

By TWICE Staff -- TWICE, 3/21/2011

ORLANDO — Three Cobra products compatible with an iPhone app are now compatible with new Android apps.

The products are the Cobra Phone- Lynx, Cobra iRadar, and Cobra’s Tag Bluetooth tagging system.

PhoneLynx for Android, available May 1 at a suggested $59.99 with free Android app, is a Bluetooth-enabled device that lets consumers use their landline-phone system to originate and receive cellular calls through their Bluetooth- connected smartphone.

From any home phone, the device and app enable consumers to use the voicedialing feature of their Android phone. The device also activates a home phone’s message-indicator light when cellphone voicemail arrives, and it lets users save frequently dialed contacts in a speed dial list accessible from both the mobile and home phone.

The Cobra Tag Bluetooth tagging system, which helps avoid losing car keys and other tagged valuables, will be available through retailers nationwide in July at suggested retail price of $59.99. The Cobra Tag App for Blackberry will also be available at no cost from the Blackberry App World at that time along with the Android App in the Android Market.

The tagging system consists of a smartphone app paired via Bluetooth to a small key-fob device. Users download the app to their smartphone and attach the Cobra Tag device to items such as car keys, a purse, or laptop bag. The system monitors the distance between the phone and tagged item, and the phone produces an audible alert if they become separated.

The Cobra Tag app also records the GPS location and the time of day the item became separated and sends the information to a contact list via email, text message, or linked Facebook or Twitter account.

The company’s iRadar app for Android becomes available April 4 following the October 2010 launch of the iRadar for iPhone app.

iRadar consists of a dash-mounted radar/ laser detector priced at a suggested $129 and the free iRadar app, which communicates via Bluetooth to the radar/laser detector. From the app, users can control detector settings. Using a phone’s GPS, the app alerts drivers to speed and redlight cameras, known speed traps and dangerous intersections. The alerts are shown visually on the smartphone and emitted audibly from the radar detector.

The app also shows compass heading, and car battery status. Cobra iRadar users can also submit database updates and alert other iRadar customers in real time to upcoming threats.
