AT&T Adds Postpaid Plans For iPad, Tablets

By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 3/3/2011

Dallas - A day after Apple unveiled its iPad 2, AT&T announced plans to offer a postpaid billing option to join its current prepaid option for tablets equipped with an embedded AT&T 3G modem.

The postpaid option, like the current prepaid option, is a month-to-month plan requiring no one- or two-year contracts. Because no contract is mandated, the tablet's pricing to consumers won't be subsidized. The postpaid charges will appear on the user's monthly wireless statement, and the prepaid option will continue to be billed to the user's credit card.

AT&T currently offers the Galaxy Tab at an unsubsidized $599 and the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G in three memory capacities, also unsubsidized. The new postpaid billing option will be available in all AT&T retail  stores, att.com, Best Buy, Fry's, select Nexcom locations and Walmart stores nationwide.

The options are priced like this:

The postpaid plans are $14.99 for 250MB or $25 for 2GB of data. Customers on the 2GB plan who exceed their monthly data allotment will be charged $10 per 1GB of overage. For a limited time, customers who activate a new postpaid $25 plan get the first month free.

The prepaid plans are also $14.99 for 250GB or $25 for 2GB, but customers on the 2GB plan who exceed their allotment will be given the option to purchase an additional 2GB for $25.
