Pioneer Car Promotes Pandora In Online Ads

By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 2/24/2011

Long Beach, Calif. - Pioneer's car electronics division launched an online advertising campaign focused on products that stream Pandora's Internet-radio service via connected smartphones.

A series of ads (viewable at www.youtube.com/pioneerelectronics) promotes nine new Pioneer in-dash systems with Pandora integration. The ad runs on the Pandora Internet radio homepage and within the Pandora iPhone app, with the specific product featured in the ads customized to the age group of the listener, Pioneer said. An 18-year-old might see a $150 single CD player with Pandora, but 40-year-olds might see the flagship AVIC-X930BT navigation and entertainment system, a spokesman explained.

The series of ads features an audiophile named Barry, said to take his passion for sound quality too far.

The ads started running this month to capitalize on the Verizon iPhone launch and their users, who might be considering accessories and in-dash units that will integrate with their phones, Pioneer said.

The videos and outtakes appear on the company's YouTube page as well as at www.pioneerelectronics.com/Barry.
