New Sharp LCDs Receive DivX Plus HD

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 1/26/2011

San Diego - Sonic Solutions' DivX said Wednesday that Sharp Electronics has agreed to add DivX Plus HD Certification to its new LE835 and LE830 lines of Aquos Quattron LCD TVs and Aquos Blu-ray Disc players.

DivX Plus is said to support playback of DivX MKV video files in 1080p HD resolution.

Consumers who purchase the new Sharp products will be able to view high-quality playback of DivX Plus HD videos and Hollywood movies in the DivX format on any optical disc or SD card.

DivX Plus HD includes such features as support for up to eight subtitle and audio tracks in a single movie file, smooth fast-forward and rewind, and auto chapter points so users can skip between chapters in a video when no chapters have previously been authored.

DivX Plus Software allows users to create and playback H.264 video in an MKV file container. DivX Plus HD Certified devices will playback all previous versions of DivX video and DivX Plus HD video files with the MKV file extension and AAC audio created with third-party tools.

Sharp Aquos Quattron LE835- and LE830-series LCD TVs combine Sharp's X-Gen panel with Quad Pixel Technology and edge LED backlighting. Models are offered in the 60-inch, 52-inch, 46-inch and 40-inch screen sizes, and will begin shipping this spring.

The company's HP25/35/75/205 Blu-ray Disc players will go on sale in the United States in March.
