Shapiro's Book Debuts On NYT Bestseller List

TWICE Staff -- TWICE, 1/25/2011

Arlington, Va. - First-time author Gary Shapiro, president/CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), has a best seller.

His book that debuted during International CES, The Comeback: How Innovation Will Restore the American Dream (Beaufort Books) appeared as No. 7 on the New York Times Bestseller List during its inaugural release week.

The Comeback has also been a bestseller at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com, and it has been on the Publishers Weekly, USA Today Money, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post bestsellers lists.

During CES Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski acknowledged The Comeback's availability as an ebook and called this year's CES "one of the most elaborate book-launch parties in American history."

In The Comeback, Shapiro outlines how the federal government has lost its way, and, in a critique of Washington, provides readers a blueprint to restore the American dream.

"It is an honor to make the New York Times bestseller list, but I believe this achievement reflects that Americans are frustrated with our economic situation and are hungry for decisive action," Shapiro said in a statement. "My hope is that the positive feedback from readers and reviewers on the need for a national strategic plan and specific ideas presented in The Comeback will translate into action and an innovation-focused national agenda."

The Comeback features a preface by innovator Mark Cuban and has been praised by Steve Forbes, president and CEO of Forbes, Alan Mulally, CEO, Ford Motor Company, Ivan Seidenberg, chairman and CEO, Verizon Communications; Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA), Chairman, House Government Oversight and Reform Committee and Grover Norquist, president, Americans for Tax Reform.
