Opera Browser Headed To Bravia TVs

Oslo, Norway - Opera Software and Sony Electronics this week confirmed reports that its browser technology will be added to Internet-connected Sony Bravia televisions and Blu-ray Disc players, giving users greater flexibility and speed to surf the net from the living room.

Opera said the addition of its software - which is adaptable to a wide range of platforms - will deliver a more "lean-forward," interactive experience on Sony sets than pervious services have allowed.

The browser can deliver similar functionality to select Sony Bravia Internet TVs powered by Google TV, which use the Google's Chrome browser for Internet surfing.

The Opera Devices software developer kit (SDK) is a cross-platform, standards-based backbone of Opera for connected TVs and Blu-ray Disc players.

The Opera Devices SDK is the foundation for developing full web browsers and user interfaces, the company said.

Opera brings customization and ease of content distribution to global markets by enabling the delivery of web applications, widgets, full web browsing and emerging standards such as HTML5, HbbTV and OIPF.
