VoIP App Heads To Android From iPhone

San Francisco - App maker Toktumi brought its industry-first tri-mode VoIP/cell calling app to the Android platform.

The app, called Line2, is already available for the iPhone and is promoted as the only VoIP smartphone app that operates over Wi-Fi, 3G/4G cellular data networks, and circuit-switched cellular voice networks using the same phone number.

The app serves multiple purposes. It's designed for consumers who want to reduce their cellphone voice-calling charges, add a second phone number to their smartphone, or turn a Wi-Fi or 3G/4G-enabled tablet into a phone,

It can also be used to place or receive Wi-Fi calls when cellular service is unavailable, place and receive Wi-Fi calls while overseas without incurring cellular roaming charges, and place or receive unlimited Wi-Fi calls to and from to any other Line2 user anywhere in the world, the company said.

If a reliable Wi-Fi or cellular-data connection is not available, the Line2 app will use the phone's cellular voice line to send or receive calls.

Line2 is a free download that offers 30 days of free service. After that, service costs $9.95/month for unlimited U.S. and Canada calling and texting. Calls to international numbers start at 2 cents per minute whether a call is placed from the U.S. or abroad.

Line2 for Android includes the functionality and features currently available to Apple iOS users but adds a few extra features, such as speech-to-text conversion to input a text message via voice.
