By Editors of TWICE -- TWICE, 8/30/2010

PHILADELPHIA — Stream TV Networks plans to launch a mobile tablet that features 7-inch capacitive touchscreen and runs on the Android 2.2 OS.

The 8.2-inch by 4.8-inch by 0.5-inch eLocity A7 Internet Tablet, tentatively set to retail for $399 with included wireless keyboard, features 1GHz Nvidia dual-core processor, 1080p HDMI output, three-axis accelerometer, 800 by 480 display, 4eGB embedded flash memory, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Adobe Flash Player 10.1, embedded stereo speakers, 1.3-megapixel webcam, MicroSD card slot, Bluetooth and a docking port for future connection options. It weighs 1.02 pounds.

It will be compatible with VoIP and video-chat apps as well as apps that convert, display and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files.

The company also plans versions equipped with 3.4G and 4G cellular data at an unannounced date.

The Wi-Fi version will be available for preordering Sept. 1 on an e-commerce site to be announced for November availability to consumers. The 3G and 4G versions could be available about a month or two later, the company said.

“We believe we have created a worthy competitor to the iPad,” said Stream TV CEO Mathu Rajan.

Stream Networks markets such B-to-B products as digital signage. The tablets, sold under the eLocity brand, will be the company’s first consumer product.

The tablet launch is the first step in Stream TV’s strategic growth plan to bring to market innovative products featuring state-of-the-art technology designed to transform consumer communications and a digital lifestyle, the company said.
