Best Buy Taps Medical Channel

Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 7/23/2010

Minneapolis - Best Buy for Business is extending its services to physicians through a partnership with Cardiac Science Corp., a cardiology device manufacturer.

Under the deal, the Best Buy unit will supply IT products and services to support Cardiac Science's devices in the physician office, including pre-sales IT consulting, IT hardware and software sales, installation and post-sales technical support.

Cardiac Science will continue to handle medical device sales, installation, in-service training and medical device technical support.

Best Buy described the partnership as "an important pillar in the business unit's strategy to focus on markets with the strongest need and growth potential."

"Healthcare reform incentivizes physicians to adopt medical technologies that network with electronic medical record systems, and there is a great unmet opportunity for IT expertise in the small and mid-size medical office," said Glen Swanson, Best Buy's business customer group VP. "Our relationship with Cardiac Science will enable us to more effectively serve tens of thousands of physicians who are seeking support for their IT needs."

Best Buy for Business provides products and IT support services for small- to medium-sized businesses through a dedicated website and stations within Best Buy stores.

Cardiac Science develops, manufactures, and markets a family of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic cardiology devices and systems, including automated external defibrillators (AED), electrocardiograph devices (ECG/EKG), cardiac stress treadmill and systems, diagnostic workstations, Holter monitoring systems, hospital defibrillators, vital signs monitors, cardiac rehabilitation telemetry systems, and cardiology data management systems (informatics) that connect with hospital information (HIS), electronic medical record (EMR), and other information systems.
