NEW YORK — Macy’s is providing in-store demos of Kinect, the new motion- and voice-sensor interface for Xbox, at 13 of its department stores. The demos are part of an aggressive back-to-school program, including new fashion collections, designed to position the department store chain as a shopping destination for tweens, teens and college coeds.
Macy’s will use the demos as traffic drivers, but will not carry Kinect or Xbox 360 consoles.
The company will also give away 30 Kinect interfaces from Aug. 12 to Sept. 10 through a contest on its forthcoming teen fashion and popculture microsite, Mstylelab. The site will also host the launch of the in-store demonstrations.
Macy’s carries a limited in-store CE assortment that’s comprised largely of digital cameras and iPods. It’s largest electronics selection can be found at its flagship Herald Square store in Manhattan, where local CE specialist J&R Music and Computer World operates a J&R Express shop.
