Haier Picks Sonic Solutions For Digital Movie Delivery

NOVATO, CALIF. — Sonic Solutions announced that Haier has chosen the RoxioNow platform to provide digital movies and TV shows via the web to its new line of Blu-ray Disc players and HDTVs.

“Digital movie services powered by the RoxioNow platform will play an important role in our next-generation connected devices and help make it easy for consumers to browse, purchase and enjoy the best in digital entertainment from the comfort of their living rooms,” said Doug Lane, president of Haier digital products group for the Americas, in a Sonic statement.

“With its broad placement at major retail outlets, Haier will help to significantly raise awareness for over-thetop video services and further fuel consumer adoption,” said Mark Ely, executive VP of strategy, Sonic Solutions. “Sonic will continue to help companies launch compelling digital offerings and expand device support in order to establish over-the-top video services as the most flexible and convenient entertainment choice for consumers.”

The RoxioNow platform serves a broad range of premium content, including new movies and next-day TV programs, to a growing, multi-manufacturer group of home and mobile electronics including PCs, connected TVs, set-top DVRs, Blu-ray Disc players, smartphones and mobile media devices.

The platform enables retailers and consumer electronics companies to participate in the entertainment supply chain, add value to product offerings and form ongoing relationships with customers. “Powered by RoxioNow” stores enable consumers to instantly rent and purchase highquality entertainment on their favorite device and, through the RoxioNow online entertainment locker, the fl exibility to playback content ordered on additional consumer electronics devices.

RoxioNow powers digital entertainment delivery for a range of companies including Best Buy, Blockbuster, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Kmart, Lionsgate and Sears, and is available on a broad variety of consumer electronics devices.
