LG Announces 3D Bundle Promotions

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 7/19/2010

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — LG formally introduced an arsenal of 3D products it is bringing to market to outfit its new 3D-ready Infinia LED HDTVs.

The products will be part of a 3D bundle promotion marketed under the callout phrase “1-2-3D,” and tied to the purchase of either an LX9500- series or LX6500-series 3D HD LED backlit LCD TV and a LG 3D-ready Blu-ray Disc player.

Consumers who purchase a 3D set from one of the two LG series and the 3D Blu-ray Disc player will receive two pairs of the 3D glasses, and a $100 instant- rebate coupon for the 3D film “IMAX Under the Sea 3D.”

The 3D sets and Blu-ray Disc player will also include access to LG’s Net- Cast Entertainment system featuring streaming entertainment content from Netflix, YouTube, Vudu and other partners.

“While consumers are still seeking the ultimate 2D HDTV home entertainment experience, demand for 3D technology is growing by the day, and as more content becomes available in the 3D format, this demand will continue to increase,” stated Peter Reiner, LG marketing senior VP.

“LG is now providing consumers with ‘something better’ in 3D — sleek design, entertainment and online content options, and the extraordinary picture and sound quality that people have come to expect from LG.”

LG’s 3D products include the following:
• The BX580 3D Network Bluray Disc Player ($350 suggested retail price);
• 55- and 47-inch LX9500-series 3D HD LED-backlit LCD TVs, priced at $5,400 and $4,300, respectively;
• 55- and 47-inch LX6500 3D HD LED LCD TVs priced at $3,600 and $2,700, respectively; and
• AG-S100 3D active-shutter glasses, priced at $180 each.

LG said it will launch its LX9500 3D LED LCD TVs this month supported by an integrated, multifaceted marketing campaign with broadcast and online advertising tied to LG’s corporate partnership with the NCAA. The first spots under that arrangement began airing during the NCAA “March Madness” men’s basketball tournament.

The LX9500 TVs offer an ultrathin panel design, full-array LED backlighting with local dimming technology, a 480Hz refresh rate and 2D THX certification.

The LX6500-series sets available now offer LED edge-lighting, thin cabinet designs and 240Hz refresh rates.
