Target Targets TV, Gaming, Imaging

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 6/7/2010

MINNEAPOLIS —Walmart isn’t the only national discount chain upgrading its consumer electronics departments.

Soon after Walmart outlined its plans for an enhanced wireless and A/ V off ering, Target, its closest channel competitor, detailed its own agenda for CE, with a focus on TV, gaming and digital imaging.

Within the former, changes include the introduction of edge-lit LED and IPcapable models, an expanded assortment of larger screen sizes, and an updated TV wall on which to merchandise them.

Elsewhere, a reconfigured video game section is being expanded by 30 percent and features a larger, more open layout.

Within digital imaging, Target is expanding and upgrading its assortment to include its first in-store SLR models. Like the TVs, the new SLRs will be grouped together with clear signage highlighting key product features.

The rolling retrofit will be completed nationwide this month.
