‘Avatar' Makes Blu-ray, DVD Debut On Apr. 22, But Only In 2D

Los Angeles - Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment officially announced Tuesday that it will launch director James Cameron's box office record-setting sci-fi feature "Avatar" in a Blu-ray Disc plus DVD combo pack on April 22.The Earth Day release will include only the 2D versions of the film. The studio still has not announced a formal release plan for the 3D Blu-ray Disc version, as it awaits more 3D equipment to reach market.
Written by James Cameron and produced with his long-time collaborator Jon Landau, "Avatar" stars Sam Worthington, Zoë Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Wes Studi and Laz Alonso.
The Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning epic is the highest-grossing film of all time, taking in more than $2.6 billion in worldwide box office sales.
