Target Sending Mobile Coupons To Cellphones

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 3/11/2010

Minneapolis - Target has introduced a mobile coupon program that allows customers to receive exclusive offers directly on their cellphones.

The coupons can be redeemed at all Target stores by scanning a bar code on the phone at checkout.

Shoppers can join the program at Target.com/mobile for PCs or m.target.com for mobile phones. Consumers can also opt-in by texting COUPONS to 827438 (TARGET).

Customers will receive a confirmation text message with a link to a mobile Web page that contains multiple offers, all accessible through a single bar code. Offers are single-use and expire on the listed date.

"We know that mobile phones are an integral part of our guests' lives, and mobile coupons are just another way we're providing convenient, on-the-go shopping solutions," said Steve Eastman, president of Target.com.

Target said it is the first national retailer to offer mobile-coupon scanning in all of its stores. The company's prior m-commerce initiatives include access to mobile gift cards, views of online assortments, product-availability checks, store-location finder, gift-registry management, weekly ad retrieval, and text and email notification of special promotions.
