Target Reports Higher Q4 Earnings

MINNEAPOLIS — Target reported higher net earnings for its fiscal fourth quarter and fiscal year, ended Jan. 30.

Net earnings for the quarter were $936 million for the quarter, compared with $609 million in the prior year’s quarter.

Retail segment sales increased 3.7 percent in the fourth quarter to $19.7 billion in 2009, from $19.0 billion in 2008, due to the contribution from new stores and a 0.6 percent increase in compstore sales.
