Distributors: Better Times Ahead, But Retail Share Battles Remain

NEW YORK — Distributors are acknowledging that while economic conditions are getting better, retailers are still battling for traffic, volume and ever-elusive profits as the second quarter looms.

That is the view from several key distributors polled by TWICE for this virtual roundtable.

While retail conditions are mixed for many, distributors are saying that new categories such as 3D TV, e-readers, iPad accessories and mobile TV will create interest and drive consumers to see the latest technology.

The distributors polled were quick to point out that flatpanel TVs with Internet features and different sizes of displays — LEDs in particular —Blu-ray decks, and accessories for both A/V and SO/HO products should not only drive volume but profi tability as well.
