CEA Finalizing Majaps Details For 2011 CES

By Steve Smith -- TWICE, 3/8/2010

ARLINGTON, VA. — The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) will release details on its plan to have connected major appliance section at the 2011 International CES in Las Vegas next January, possibly as early as this week.

Word about CEA’s plans surfaced Feb. 25, and in calls to top major appliance manufacturers by TWICE last week, most were interested in hearing further details. None were contacted directly by CEA as of yet.

In a statement to TWICE last Thursday Jason Oxman, senior VP of industry affairs at CEA explained the thinking behind the plan. “In response to strong customer demand, we are creating a new area for the 2011 CES focused on connected home appliances. Consumers have long demanded the ability to connect their home entertainment devices in the living room, and the availability of smart grid and other connected technologies in home appliances is creating increased consumer demand for smarter appliances.”

He continued, “With increased interest in smart appliances comes an opportunity for CES exhibitors to showcase their connected home appliances that make consumers lives easier while saving energy.”
