Zvox Adds Digital To TV-Audio Systems

Swampscott, Mass. — Zvox added Dolby Digital decoding and digital inputs for the first time to three of its single-chassis TV-audio systems because several TV manufacturers recently introduced TVs without analog audio outputs, said Zvox founder Tom Hannaher.

Zvox systems connect to the audio outputs of a TV to amplify TV sound, widen the stereo stage, deliver deeper bass and provide virtual surround effects. Previous models connected only to a TV's analog stereo outputs, but the three new models feature optical and coaxial digital inputs as well as analog inputs. All three models also accept Dolby Digital signals but down-mix the content to Dolby Digital 2.0 for processing.

The models are the 575 HSD at $749, 550 HSD at $449, and 430 HSD at $449.

MK Launches New Speakers

Glenview, Ill. — MK Sound, distributed in the U.S. by the Dolphin Group, introduced its first new speakers since the company was formed in 2007.

The MK Sound 950 series consists of three $599-each front LCRs, two $1,199/pair triple surrounds, and a $1,799 dual 12-inch subwoofer.

Denmark-based MK Sound is the heir to the M&K (Miller & Kreisel) brand. MK purchased M&K products and intellectual property after the founding company, 34-year-old Miller & Kreisel Sound, filed Chapter 7 in early 2007.

Canton Adds Series

Minneapolis — Canton added a new design to its aluminum-enclosure CD series of in-room speakers.

The new CD 1000 series, which features a squared cabinet and high-gloss finishes, consists of a $1,600/pair CD 1090 floorstanding speaker, $550-each CD 1050 center channel, and $450/pair CD 1020 satellites. All are magnetically shielded and available in black, silver and white high-gloss finishes.
