Acer Entering e-Reader Market

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 1/25/2010

Taipei, Taiwan - Acer plans to introduce its first e-book reader by late June.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Acer's entry will feature a 6-inch monochrome screen and will be sold initially in Europe.

Jim Wong, president of the PC maker's IT division, said Acer is lining up magazine, newspaper and book publishers to provide content for the device.

Acer joins a rapidly expanding pool of e-reader suppliers, which included more than 24 exhibitors at this month's International CES, where major names like Samsung and Audiovox joined the fray.

Market research firm Yankee Group projects that 6 million e-readers will be sold this year, and expects the market to grow to $2.5 billion by 2013.
