AT&T Readies Android Phones

By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 1/25/2010

AT&T will offer its first five Android-based phones in the first half with models from multiple suppliers, including Dell and HTC, the carrier announced here at CES.

A new Motorola-made Android phone, unveiled by Motorola at International CES, operates on AT&T's 3G bands, but Motorola didn't say whether it would be sold by AT&T.

Dell's Android-based Mini 3, the company's first cellphone in years, rolled out in foreign markets in recent months. The exact availability dates and prices of the Dell and HTC phones weren't announced, nor was the specific HTC model. .

Separately, AT&T announced that subscribers using select Nokia phones would be able to download content and apps from the Nokia-operated Ovi store for the first time. Purchases will be charged automatically to a subscriber's monthly AT&T bill. The Nokia phones are the Nokia E71x, Surge, Mural, 6650, 6555 and 6350 — with more devices to come.
