PNY Partners With Cheetah For HDMI Cables

By Lisa Johnston -- TWICE, 1/25/2010

Cheetah Cables and PNY Technologies announced earlier this month they had partnered to jointly manufacture and market a line of HDMI cables under the PNY brand.

The PNY Active HDMI cables, powered by Cheetah, will feature HDMI 1.4 technology. The cables come standard with Dynamic Adaptive Equalization, which is said to improved bandwidth performance and enhance audio/video capabilities.

“We are excited about working with PNY to bring Cheetah Cables to market,” said Eric Johnson, Cheetah Cables CEO, in a statement. “With the explosion of consumer electronic applications requiring HDMI, Cheetah Cables is well positioned to take advantage of the need for high-speed ultra-thin cables.”

“The new line of Active HDMI cables is a natural addition to our family of PNY products,” said Tony Gomez, PNY sales and marketing VP. “We've combined the power of Cheetah technology with the quality and reliability of the PNY brand to bring consumers guaranteed optimal HD performance at the industry's highest current speed level.”

Cheetah Cables enable a guaranteed 10.2Gbs over one-third the size cable diameter up to 5 meters in length, the company said, and is available in standard-to-standard. The company said its cables combine embedded cable intelligence with a “sleek, ultra-thin design,” and that they can be used for imaging, HD home theater, computing, gaming systems and portable applications.

The cables feature RedMere's patented semiconductor technology embedded in the cable, which reportedly minimizes the data errors that usually occur when very high speed signals are transmitted over copper using signal conditioning techniques.

Cables will be available in the first half of the year. More product details will become available when the products are launched, a spokeswoman for PNY told TWICE, which should be in the next few weeks.
