Directed Shows BlackBerry App

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 1/25/2010

Directed unveiled its second SmartStart app for remote starting a car from a smartphone.

The new app works with the BlackBerry, whereas its first app worked on the iPhone and launched last fall.

The SmartStart 1.5 for BlackBerry, to be available sometime in first quarter, works with the same $299 cellular module that comes with the iPhone app. They remote start the car without the need for a separate key-fob transmitter. As with the iPhone app, a remote-start system is required.

Besides remote starting, the app also offers two-way notification and push notification of such events as a security break-in.
