LG, Viking Forge Appliance Alliance

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 1/22/2010

Las Vegas - LG Electronics and Viking Range Corp. will share distribution, sourcing, product development and service functions under an expansive alliance announced at this week's International Builders' Show, here.

As part of the strategic pact, LG's premium majap line will be offered to Viking's U.S. distributors, while LG will help Viking expand international distribution of its super-premium, commercial-look products, particularly within the Asia/Pacific markets.

LG will continue to ship its current network of national and regional appliance dealers, and described Viking's distributor network as a specialized channel that will compliment its existing strategy. Viking distributors could begin carrying LG appliances by the second quarter.

"This alliance will leverage the respective brand, technology, marketing and distribution strengths of LG and Viking, enabling us both to satisfy a broader range of consumer needs," said LG Electronics USA president James Shad.

Added Viking CEO Fred Carl, Jr., "Teaming with LG will give our loyal distributors new growth opportunities while allowing Viking to work with one of the strongest global brands and technology leaders in home appliances. We look forward to this mutually beneficial relationship, including future opportunities for product development collaboration."
