Audio-Technica Unveils NC Headphones

By Lisa Johnston -- TWICE, 12/21/2009

Audio-Technica introduced last week its latest noise-canceling on-ear headphones, model ATH-ANC1.

The QuietPoint active noise-canceling headphones, which feature 36mm drivers, reportedly block out up to 85 percent of outside noise; they detect environmental noise using miniature built-in microphones, and apply a corresponding sound-canceling signal, the company said. The active noise-canceling circuitry is located in an external module attached to its connecting cord, meant for extremely lightweight on-ear wear.

Frequency response is listed as 10Hz to 20,000Hz, with a sensitivity of 105dB and an impedance of 130 ohms. The ATH-ANC1 will operate without batteries or when the noise-canceling feature is turned off. They can be folded for portability and come with a carrying pouch.

Suggested retail is $129, with January availability.
