Panasonic Unveils Frame-A/V Combo System

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 12/7/2009

Panasonic recently unveiled its first hybrid audio system with iPod dock and digital photo frame.

Panasonic's MW-10 digital frame is shipping in December at a $299 suggested retail and is being positioned by the company as “the ultimate multimedia solution for den, office, bedroom, dorm room or living room.”

It features a built-in CD player and FM/AM radio tuner with a 45-station (30 FM/15 AM) preset memory. The speaker is made with low-density bamboo cones for high quality sound reproduction, and special diffusers are installed in front of the speaker units to disperse sound over a wide listening area.

Bass frequencies are handled with a D.Bass function that enhances lower tones in conjunction with the volume level.

The universal dock for iPod plays music and video downloads on the frame's LCD screen.

A remote control is included to operate the multimedia features, including the iPod, from a distance.

The frame features a 9-inch WVGA LCD screen and will accept photos from a CD, SD card and internal memory.

An additional 4GB of internal memory stores image data for up to 6,000 photos and will also store music and video files.

A built-in slideshow feature displays images simultaneously with music from the CD player.

Other onscreen features include a clock and iPod track menu, calendar and photos, clock and photos, and audio and calendar.

An SD slot and USB connectivity enable transferring data from a PC or CD-R/RW.

The MW-10 is Energy Star qualified, and its UniPhier LSI integrates all video signal processing circuits onto a single chip, which lowers power consumption and reduces the number of components.
