More HD Radio Portables Due At CES
By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 12/7/2009
New York — Anywhere from six to eight more headphone-type portable HD Radios will be displayed at CES from four to six CE companies.
Products expected to be on display include:
• the industry's second, and possibly a third, HD Radio add-on to an iPhone and iPod Touch;
• at least two more MP3/portable media players (PMPs) with embedded FM HD Radio, joining the ZuneHD PMP; and
• two radio-only headphone portables that will be the first portable models to incorporate AM tuners. One will incorporate analog AM, and the other will incorporate HD AM.
Current portables besides the ZuneHD PMP include RadioShack's recently introduced $79 Gigaware-brand model, which connects to iPhones and iPod Touches to add HD FM with iTunes tagging. Another is Best Buy's $49 Insignia-brand headphone-type portable radio.
