Coby, Maxell Give Peek At CES Headphones

By Lisa Johnston -- TWICE, 11/23/2009

At least two companies — Maxell and Coby — are already gearing up for International CES, to be held in Las Vegas Jan. 7-10, 2010, by releasing information about the headphones they will debut at the show.

Coby will be introducing what a spokeswoman for the company called its first “headphones combo pack” — a pair of over-the-ear headphones (models CV215) packaged with a pair of the company's Jammerz ear buds.

The CV215 headphones come in four colors — blue, charcoal, red and silver — and feature 40mm neodymium driver units, a folding design and adjustable headband, and a gold-plated 3.5mm stereo plug. The Jammerz have 9mm neodymium drivers and a “sound-isolating” design.

The package will carry a $12.99 suggested retail. Shipping was not given at press time, but the company's spokeswoman said the products will be sold at mass and midtier retailers.

Maxell will be using CES to add several new series of ear buds and headphones. The company said the new products are meant to make “their audio lineup even more appealing to the younger, fashion-conscious consumer.”

The Juicy Tunes, which have a $9.99 suggested retail, have an angled-tip design that's meant for enhanced comfort and sound quality.

The Cool Beans ear buds ($14.99) are offered in seven colors. They are said to have a lightweight and slim construction.

The third line, the Couleurs series, are highlighted by their color combinations, Maxell said, along with an aluminum ergonomically designed cavity that provides for clear and crisp sound. Suggested retail is $19.99.

The company's Timber series ($29.99) will be offered in Light Oak and Mahogany. The ear buds' natural wood housing are meant to create a warmer, more resonant bass effect while also eliminating harsh voice in high frequencies. These ear buds will retail at $29.99

Finally, the Ultra Thin headphones ($19.99) will be sold in five colors. Features are said to include a slim, lightweight and foldable design.

Shipping information was not provided at press time.
