Walmart Plans Third Round Of CE Price Cuts

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 11/17/2009

Bentonville, Ark. - Walmart will offer a third round of weekly pre-Black Friday CE price promotions beginning this Saturday.

The latest offers include a 26-inch 720p Vizio LCD TV for $248, down from $347, and a $40 gift card with purchases of the select "Hero" gaming packages, including Band, DJ and Guiter Hero 5.

The promotions are good from Nov. 21-27 while supplies last, and are only valid in stores.

Previous pre-Black Friday deals included a $100 gift card with the purchase of select BlackBerry devices and a two-year contract, and discounts on Sharp 1080p 120Hz LCDs in 42-, 46- and 52-inch sizes.

Separately, Walmart has confirmed several day-after-Thanksgiving CE doorbusters to CNNMoney.com, which appeared on a leaked Black Friday circular. The promotions include a Sanyo 50-inch plasma 720p HDTV for $598, a Magnavox Blu-ray player for $78 and a TomTom PND for $59.

Many CE retailers have started their holiday promotions early this year, including Sears, which is running doorbuster deals each Saturday through Christmas;  Best Buy, which this month unveiled a 15.4-inch Acer laptop for $250, its lowest advertised price for a  notebook computer; and hhgregg, which is presently offering a 42-inch Panasonic 720p plasma TV for $550.

Retailers' focus on season-long promotions suggests "there will less emphasis on Black Friday and Cyber Monday than in years past," observed Ted Vaughan, a partner with accounting and consulting firm BDO Seidman.
