Minneapolis - Price competition in Android-based smartphones heated up with Best Buy Mobile's decision to reduce the price of two Sprint-network models to $99.99 from $179 through December.

The two models are the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment. Their new prices are with instant rebates and new two-year activation.

On Nov. 6, Verizon Wireless began offering the HTC-made Android-based Droid Eris at $99.99 and the Motorola-made Droid at $199.
