Flickr, Snapfish Team Up On Photo Services

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 11/13/2009

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Internet photo-sharing website Flickr, which is owned by Yahoo!, said Friday that it has selected Snapfish by HP as its preferred printing partner.

The deal with HP will enable Flickr users to create photo gifts from their digital image files.

Under the terms of the agreement, Snapfish will be the exclusive photo and photo-gift fulfillment partner for the photo-sharing giant.

Flickr's international members will now have an option to print photos directly from their photo stream - an advantage of Snapfish's international presence in 22 countries worldwide, Flickr said.

Flickr said the two services now will offer an integrated and intuitive experience that combines Snapfish's printing capabilities with Flickr's online photo-organization features, such as Organizr, Sets and Photo Page.

The Flickr Organizr function will allow easily selecting individual or batches of photos for editing or printing through Snapfish, where they can produce a variety of photo products using their personal Flickr images, Flickr said.

"At Flickr, it's important that all our members across the globe have the ability to bring their images to life through printing and sharing," stated Douglas Alexander, Flickr's general manager. "We're excited to partner with Snapfish in this effort, as we feel the company provides the value and choice we know our members expect when it comes to their photos."

In addition to enhanced printing capabilities and photo gifts, Flickr's collaboration with Snapfish will give members more flexibility in shipping photos. Members will be able to print photos from anywhere in the world, and can also ship photos to anywhere. Additionally, members in the U.S. have the option to pick up their prints locally at any of Snapfish's retail partners' stores, including Walmart, Walgreens, Staples, Duane Reade and others.
