Concord, Mass. - TomTom added several new features to its $99 GPS app for the iPhone through a free update that is pending approval by Apple.
The TomTom U.S. & Canada GPS app on the App Store will add text-to-speech pronunciation of street names and offer lane guidance. It will also add improved iPod player control while the TomTom app is running, including the ability to pause music and advance songs.
The app also has a "help menu" for access to emergency numbers and directions to the nearest emergency services.
Users also get a free map update and a free update for safety-camera locations.
TomTom stated it is committed to the long-term development of its iPhone app, according to Benoit Simeray, onboard mobile senior VP, who added that users may expect continued free updates.
