By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 11/12/2009

Irvine, Calif. - The Digital Television transition may have been successfully executed four months ago, but KWorld Computer is finding new markets for its new variations on TV set-top converter boxes.

The company said Thursday that it has developed two products aimed at bringing over-the-air digital television signals and in-the-clear QAM digital cable signals to desktop displays and/or old analog TV sets.

KWorld ComputersKWorld Computers' external ATSC/QAM TVBox.The external ATSC/QAM TVBox is being made available in two iterations - the SA290-Q LE (which carries a $99 suggested retail) and the SA295-Q DE (which carries a $109 suggested retail.)

The SA290-Q LE supports VGA output for a direct connection a desktop PC monitor, while the SA295-Q DE model supports VGA, DVI and HDMI output (cables included).

Both versions also include component video (YPbPr) and composite RCA video outputs for use with old analog TV sets, KWorld said.

Programs are displayed in a 16:9 aspect ratio and can be output in a range of video formats, including 1080i or 720p high definition.

KWorld Computer is targeting the devices at students and other viewers who are now watching their television shows via the Web.

Other features in both models include an advanced Power Smart energy-saving technology that automatically powers off the TVBox when it has been idle for a user-selected period of time, adjustable from 30 minutes to four hours.

Both also support MP3 and JPEG photo and video playback, enabling an LCD PC monitor to be transformed into a digital photo frame.

The tuner boxes come with an infrared remote to change channels or to flip the monitor between PC and TV use.

Both products are shipping now to KWorld dealers, DMRs, VARs and distributors, including Ingram Micro, NewEgg, Fry's Electronics, TigerDirect, PC Bay and others.
