Intel To Pay AMD $1.25 Billion

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 11/12/2009

New York - Intel will pay AMD $1.25 billion, and in return the two firms will end all outstanding legal disputes.

The two chipmakers have been sparring in courts around the world for the past several years over antitrust litigation and patent cross-licensing disputes.

Under the terms of the deal, AMD and Intel will enter into a five-year cross-licensing agreement, and the two companies will give up any claims of breach from the previous licensing agreement, the companies said in a written statement.

As a result of the payment, AMD will drop all pending litigation, including the case in the U.S. District Court in Delaware and an additional two cases pending in Japan. AMD will also withdraw all its regulatory complaints against Intel worldwide.
