Best Buy Offering $250 Acer Laptop

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 11/10/2009

Minneapolis - Best Buy is raising the holiday promotional stakes by offering its lowest advertised price ever for a laptop computer.

Starting tomorrow, the retailer will sell a no-frills Acer laptop in stores and online for $249. The model features an Intel Celeron 900 processor, 2GB of memory and a 160GB hard drive.

The promotion is designed to draw attention to what Best Buy described as its "extensive seasonal computing offering," which includes more than 30 laptops, six netbooks, 17 desktops and four all-in-ones by nine leading brands.

"For many of us, computers are the center of our digital worlds, and Best Buy is committed to remaining a valued partner in this space," said Jason Bonfig, the chain's computer VP. "We promise a broad assortment of quality products at a variety of price points, all the major brands, and smart Best Buy Blue Shirts and Geek Squad Agents to help customers feel confident about the choices they're making."

As part of the holiday push, the retailer will include six months of free anti-virus protection with any computer purchased now through the end of December, and will also include one year of Best Buy-owned Napster with any Dell computer purchase.

For consumers wishing to upgrade their current PCs to Windows 7, the chain has reduced its $129 operating-system-install service charge to $39.99, and continues to offer through mid-January an exclusive Hewlett-Packard bundle that includes a desktop, monitor, laptop, netbook, wireless router and Geek Squad setup for $1,199.
