Best Buy Brings Back Black Friday Contest

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 11/2/2009

Minneapolis, Minn. - Best Buy has begun accepting entries for its second annual Black Friday VIP contest, which gives winners first crack at its day-after-Thanksgiving promotions and a $1,000 gift card to pay for them.

Customers are invited to tell Best Buy what they are most excited about this Black Friday in 250 words or less, and winning entries in 25 markets will win VIP treatment that morning.

The prize package includes the aforementioned gift card, plus limousine transportation to and from the 25 participating stores. Winners and three guests will get "special seating" outside the stores, and will gain entry 30 minutes before the doors open to the general public at 5 a.m.

Winners will also receive a 2.3MP Insignia digital camcorder to record the experience, and those who are also premium silver-tier members of Best Buy's Rewards Zone loyalty program will receive $150 in Geek Squad installation services for their purchases.

Best Buy has also created a Black Friday shopping tips page at www.bestbuyvipcontest.com/tips, where, among other things, the retailer recommends warm clothes, comfortable shoes, lots of patience, and "a big smile in case you end up on local news coverage."
