Hoffman Estates, Ill. - Sears is jump-starting the post-Thanksgiving promotional period with a weekly series of "Black Friday Now" sales beginning this Saturday.
Doorbuster deals will be offered every Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon between Oct. 31 and Christmas. (Sales will begin this Friday at 5 p.m. due to Halloween, Sears said.)
CE specials include a 42-inch Zenith-brand plasma TV that will be reduced on Nov. 7 from $650 to $500. The Sears exclusive can also be pre-ordered on Sears.com beginning Oct. 29.
"Sears continues to look for ways to provide values to customers by offering a wide variety of products throughout the holidays," said chief marketing officer Don Hamblen.
Sears, and sister chain Kmart, will also continue their popular layaway programs, which allow customers to pay for their purchases in installments. Layaway options were recently added to their respective e-commerce sites as well.

Poised for a great acquisition for a China based investor. In the short term, these types of promotions will simply aid further margin erosion and need for future capital infusion, because they are just not going to capture the Best Buy or Costco shopper.

Sears in making a smart move by giving customers what they want and need in these times of uncertainty. Customers need to spread out their purchases, whether that be through lay away or by taking advantage of "black Friday" like pricing over the next two months instead of just one day. Sears will also obtain the consumer's dollar before others by starting now! Their recent advertising campaigns have been slick and consumer friendly helping to gain back their former audience.

The vultures are still circling regardless of any thing they do. They are getting desperate with all of their promotions. The public perception is very negative and it will take years to correct which they might not have especially in the comming of round 2 of this recession.
