Roku Adds Video Streaming Boxes

Saratoga, Calif. - Roku said Tuesday that it is now shipping two new set-top Internet entertainment devices, including a standard-definition device that will carry a new low $80 estimated selling price.

Roku Roku is now shipping two new set-top boxes, including the HD-XR ($130).The new models include the Roku SD ($80) and Roku HD-XR ($130), giving the company a three-model set-top box lineup.

All players continue to deliver instant entertainment from Netflix, Amazon Video On Demand and MLB.TV.

The players are available online at www.roku.com and www.amazon.com, both of which are offering free shipping for a limited time.

"We're introducing a breakthrough price point with the launch of our Roku SD player," Anthony Wood, Roku founder and CEO, said. "Additionally the Roku HD-XR is the first Netflix-streaming device to embed next-generation 802.11n dual-band wireless connectivity, making it easier and more reliable than ever to start enjoying movies, TV shows, sports and the best online content available, all on the living room TV."

The Roku SD player connects to the TV using composite video cable. In addition, the Roku SD player incorporates Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) access and an Ethernet port. The new entry-level player will enable streaming movies and TV shows from the Internet-based programming patners to a TV at up to DVD quality, Roku said.

The previously introduced Roku HD and new HD-XR players feature high-definition streaming capability, of movies and TV programs. Both devices connect directly to any TV using HDMI or component video connections, and also offer S-video or composite video outputs.

The Roku HD-XR adds 802.11n dual-band Wi-Fi access to enable faster and more efficient connections with compatible wireless routers.

The Roku HD-XR also works with most legacy routers and can often boost Wi-Fi range inside the house. The unit also adds a USB port for future use, the company said.

Meanwhile, Roku said it will launch the Roku Channel Store later this fall enabling customers to add new content channels to their Roku devices. The Roku Channel Store will be delivered to all Roku customers, new and existing, as an automatic and free update.
