Lexar Adds Professional 600x CompactFlash Card

Fremont, Calif. — Lexar Media announced a CF card last week that's meant for professional photographers and advanced photo enthusiasts.
The Professional 600x CF memory card has a minimum sustained write speed capability of 600x (90MBps) when paired with a UDMA 6-enabled device, Lexar said.
Minimum sustained read speeds of 533x (80MBps) are recorded, and can be faster when paired with a UDMA 6-enabled reader.
The card is available in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities; they are scheduled to begin shipping Oct. 30. Suggested retail pricing wasn't provided at press time.
“Photographers are constantly demanding more from their equipment, and an increase in image capture speeds paired with a decrease in image transfer times can mean the world to a professional shooter,” said Jeff Cable, Lexar's marketing director, in a statement. “The combined solution of our new Professional 600x CF card and Professional ExpressCard CompactFlash reader is the next step in CF memory technology and will provide photographers with the speeds and performance they need to capture the best shots and improve their imaging workflow. When shooting with newer cameras like the Canon EOS 7D, Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Nikon D3x or Nikon D300S, professionals can capture more images per second and hundreds of JPEG files without pausing to clear their cameras' buffers.”
The Professional ExpressCard CompactFlash reader is engineered to accelerate the download of captured images to a destination computer. The reader is said to be compatible with all UDMA and non-UDMA CF cards and supports read/write speeds up to 133MBps. It will be available in November.
